Neurology
Founded in 1919, the University of Iowa Department of Neurology was one of the first academic departments of neurology in the nation and the first to be established west of the Mississippi River.
The Department of Neurology’s hallmark is its history of carefully integrating patient care, scientific investigation, and the education of medical, postdoctoral, and graduate students.
Obstetrics and Gynecology
The department is responsible for the care of all obstetric and gynecologic patients at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). In addition to patient care, the department is noted for its strong educational programs for medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing physicians. Basic and clinical research in reproductive medicine is an additional important departmental activity.

Our Vision is to be an internationally recognized academic department. This vision is intrinsically tied with our goals of providing excellent care to the patients of today and preparing ourselves to provide excellent care to the patients of tomorrow. Contained within these goals is our mission of outstanding clinical service, disease-oriented research and education of the next generation of physicians, pathologists, laboratory technicians and scientists.
Pediatrics
If you are looking for a program where expectations are high, patient volume and diversity are excellent, and a multitude of didactic and bedside teaching opportunities are provided, then you've come to the right place. We have placed major emphasis on our training programs, and we offer outstanding residency training experiences in pediatrics and medicine-pediatrics and superb fellowship training experiences that allow young physicians to further their postgraduate training with internationally recognized experts.
Psychiatry
Our diverse and talented faculty members lend themselves to the many roles of an academic medical center, and do so wholeheartedly.
As teachers, our faculty members are dedicated to training the next generation of leaders in psychiatric care and research. We have doubled the number of elective clerkships offered to medical students, and this year, the required clerkship was the second-most highly rated among medical students.
Radiation Oncology
Our skilled professionals are committed to delivering compassionate patient care, advancing research, and providing education through the integration of radiation medicine, free radical science, physics, and advanced imaging.
